•  When the snow or ice hits(来袭), be ready with extra food, clothing, boots, lights, water, activities, games, clothing and blankets on hand. This will help your physical(身体的) and mental health in many ways. You will want to shop for these items before the need arises(出现).

If you own a laptop computer, you may be able to use this to keep track of(追踪) weather on battery backup. However, if the power goes out you will not be able to recharge the battery.

Also make sure your car is stocked(储备) with the things you could need. Also take steps to protect your food and water. Food could be expensive or impossible to replace, especially if you have a lot.

When you know you will be driving in cold or inclement(恶劣的) weather, have a full tank of gas and stock your car with extra non-perishable(不易坏的) food. Let your family know your destination before you leave home.

You can even make a healthy choice for your emergency food, including: diet or nutrition bars, apples, or dried fruit. Also have enough water for yourself and all of your passengers. Take along any medications you may need in case you are stranded(被困). Repeat the above step for your home as well.

It is also a good idea to carry extra blankets, flashlights, portable lights, salt, deicer(除冰装置), hand warmers, tools and hardware; possibly a shovel or chains or a large old rug(地毯) in in your car trunk(后备箱).

Also, don't forget your fully-charged cell phone and charger. Make sure your car battery is in good condition. Many oil change outlets will test them for you.

When a storm hits your house, be sure your devices, even ones to entertain your kids are powered. These include: radios, computers, dvd players, flashlights, and video games.

If the power does go out for more than a few hours, take steps to protect your food supply. Do not just give in. Stock your cooler(s) with ice packs and any available ice in your freezer. Remove all perishable products from the refrigerator first and then the freezer as room allows.

Use a notebook computer and rechargeable electronics sparingly(节俭的); conserve(保护) battery life.
