2010 Asian Para Games

      The first Asian Para Games(亚洲残运会） (also known as the 2010 Asian Para Games), a parallel [ˈpærəlel]（并列的）sport event for Asian athletes with a disability, opened on December 12 and will close on December 19, 2010,two weeks after the conclusion of the 16th Asian Games. The event is being held in Guangzhou, China.

       Approximately [əˈprɔksimitli]（将近）5,500 athletes from 45 Asian member nations are participating in this multisport competition, making this the most comprehensive （全面的，综合的）Asian event as a steppingstone（踏脚石） for elite [eiˈli:t]（杰出的）Asian athletes aiming for the London 2012 Paralympics. Competition and training venues （体育场馆）plus all other facilities to be used for the 16th Asian Games will be converted to meet the disability-accessible requirements for Asian Para Games athletes, officials, staff and audience.

        As the inaugural [ɪnˈɔ:gjərəl]（首次的）Asian Para Games for Asia, this event is expected to become the benchmark [ˈbentʃˌmɑ:k]（标准，基准）for all future Asian Para Games. The 1st Asian Para Games is organized by the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) in cooperation with the Guangzhou Asian Para Games Organizing Committee (GAPGOC).
